Movie fans everywhere were rocked this week by the tragic passing of Robin Williams. There was a huge outpouring of grief and respect for a man who was as talented at drama as he was at comedy - and he was one of the greatest comedians of the last few decades. The following day came the less shocking but equally sad news that Lauren Bacall , one of the last remaining icons of Hollywood's golden age, had passed away. Like any film fans, we've been revisiting old favourites from both careers as our tribute every evening this week, and taking some sort of comfort from the great art they left behind.

The Trailer For Johnny Depp's Mortdecai Romps In
Based on the beloved novels by Kyril Bonfiglioli - namely Don't Point That Thing At Me, After You With A Pistol, Something Nasty In The Woodshed and The Great Moustache Mystery - Johnny Depp's Mortdecai is a right royal romp of the highest order, with Depp playing an anarchic aristocratic art dealer named Charlie Mortdecai, and Paul Bettany his valet, Jock. Think Jeeves and Wooster, but with more sex, swearing and guns, and you've just about got the new trailer for Mortdecai.

    Robin Williams: The Big Interview
In 2006, Empire sat down for a career retrospective with Robin Williams ahead of his then-upcoming film Man Of The Year. The film's release was pushed back and the interview never ran. Now, in the wake of his tragic death, we publish it for the first time.

The Empire Podcast #124: Wesley Snipes, Terry Crews
Things get rather explodey in the Empire Podcast this week, what with Expendables 3 in cinemas, and Terry Crews and Wesley Snipes in the booth. Look forward to the former talking about his love of Nando's, the robot dance and pec-popping, as well as the latter doing the Blade voice and imagining what an Expendables character called "Jazz Gumbo" would sound like.

    Jackie Chan Empire Podcast Special
In honour of the DVD and Blu-ray release of his latest, Chinese Zodiac, Jackie Chan took part in a special screening and Q&A at London's Prince Charles Cinema on Monday, August 11, and our Chris Hewitt went along to interview him for the audience on the night and for you, the Empire podcast listener.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Spoiler Podcast Feat. James Gunn
Talking to the writer-director behind Guardians, James Gunn, we find out more about how it was made, and in our hour-long discussion afterwards, get into the nitty-gritty of what makes the weird and wonderful space comedy-opera work. Look forward to a surprisingly lengthy chat about the availability of AA batteries in space, as well as a round of applause for that credit sting.

Robin Williams Pint Of Milk Interview
The phrase "comedy genius" gets bandied about a lot, but when it comes to Robin Williams, it's entirely justified. A true one-of-a-kind great, his interviews were often fantastical, fabulously surreal affairs, full of improvised impressions and surreal side-notes - as this Pint Of Milk interview from February 2012 demonstrates.

    20 Great Robin Williams Moments
The news that Robin Williams died was a punch to the collective gut of movie fans, comedy lovers and pretty much anyone who ever saw his work. But the actor had struggled for years with deep depressions, sometimes turning to substances to silence his demons. Despite that, he delivered performances both hilarious and heartfelt, and we wanted to look back at some of our favourites on this sad day.

    Robin Williams On Insomnia
We knew Robin Williams could make us sit up as well as laugh, with bona fide dramatic chops that, despite often taking second billing to the funny stuff, were always impressive in Good Will Hunting, Dead Poets Society and Christopher Nolan's daylight noir Insomnia. "People think of me as likable", he explained of his role, "so the appeal was to play against those expectations". Here he talked Empire through his experiences working on the film.

    Seth McFarlane Movie Poster Mashups
Love him or, um, not love him, Seth MacFarlane is ripe territory for a classic Empire poster mash-up. And sure enough, the forum delivered. Yes, there's a Quahog Of Solace.

Lists Of Our Lifetime: Empire's 25 Greatest Battles
As we celebrate our 25th anniversary year, we're taking a long look back over the last quarter century of cinema. We already looked at the greatest opening scenes and greatest romantic gestures, but this month we look the brawls that were brawled. These were the fights and fisticuffs that shaped the last 25 years...

Video: Sylvester Stallone And Jason Statham On Expendables 3
Talking to Sylvester Stallone and Jason Statham about the third in the Expendables franchise - featuring Harrison Ford as Max Drummer and Kelsey Grammer as Bonaparte (which should have been Blownapart, by rights) - it was only a matter of time before the incredible names created by Sly himself cropped up in conversation. As well as that (and a whole lot more), look forward to the pair explaining just what it's like to eat a meal in front of Terry Crews as he pops his pecs every other second.

Who The Heck Are The Inhumans?
Rumours are flying right now that Marvel is planning an Inhumans film , after Vin Diesel teased mention of the group on Facebook. Now, Marvel tends to develop stories for virtually all its properties and then only moves ahead when they're 100 percent happy with what's on the page, so this is no confirmation of a release. But at the very least it shows that the Inhumans are on the list of possible films, and one of the more obscure titles there. So what or who are the Inhumans? And what can we expect from a film about them? We bring you the basic facts, and speculate wildly on how the movie might work...

James Gunn On Guardians Of The Galaxy's Secrets
Speaking to us for the Empire Podcast's Guardians Of The Galaxy spoiler special, James Gunn, the writer/director of the gloriously anarchic Marvel space opera promised to give us a few more details on that credit sting, once the film had come out in cinemas. Now that it has, here are the revelations from the podcast interview, plus that promised top-up... Inevitably, this feature is full of spoilers, and should only be read if you have already seen Guardians Of The Galaxy.

Lauren Bacall: A Movie Life In Pictures
A glorious on-screen life that began with Hawks and Bogart and ended with Seth MacFarlane and Family Guy was, as Lauren Bacall put it, a "zig-zagging" affair. One of the last stalwarts of Hollywood's golden age, she graduated from shy model to neophyte actress to movie star to a true icon of cinema in the space of five decades of fame and contrasting fortune. Right into her last years living on New York's Upper West Side, she continued to burn brightly on stage, winning two Tony Awards, and turned in notable big screen performances too. From those early days on the Warner Bros. payroll to the 21st century, here's our tribute to the late, great Betty Bacall.

Weta World: Empire Visits The Hobbit's VFX Team
Sitting on a pile of awards big enough to accommodate a snoozing Smaug, New Zealand's pioneering VFX house Weta Digital is currently Hobbit Central as Peter Jackson gears up for the third and final chapter in his Middle-earth saga, The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies. Happily, on Weta's to-do list, sandwiched between "finish the dragon" and "start on the eagles", was a visit from Empire. Read about our access-all-areas tour right here.

    The Rover

This would have been a striking calling card, and it's still an impressively solid piece of genre filmmaking with great cinematography and score. But there's not much here of the ambition of Animal Kingdom, leaving Michôd in 'difficult third movie' territory. Let's hope he gets a move on this time.
