| This Week... The Cannes Film Festival is winding down, which means that our intrepid team of Chris, Ali, Damon and Louisa are approaching breaking point. A diet of nothing but canapés and litres of Orangina Rouge, sleep deprivation and constant repetition of the phrase "Bonjour le web" has left them only shadows of their former selves - and yet they soldier on, determined to bring you all the news, views and interviews from the Festival. More podcasts and videblogisodes have emerged this week, while they've also been bringing us reactions to the biggest films of the year. Here in London, there's been no slacking either: we've been looking ahead to Avengers 2 , continuing our series on the soundtracks that have defined the last six decades and speaking to the cast of Arrested Development - and we haven't even had any canapés to fuel our efforts. It's a tough life really. Helen O'Hara Deputy Online Editor, Empire | | |

| | | | I hate young people. They're so aggravating, with their cool shoes and their stupid haircuts. | | | | | | James descends into fogey-dom. | | |

| | | | | Cannes Film Festival Videblogisodes Our Cannes Film Festival videblogisodes bring you film stars, glamour and a welcome bit of sunshine, but this year they have been dogged by a mysterious, shadowy figure known only as the Cannesdarin. Watch and see if you can figure out his real identity, and pass the time as you go learning all about the Festival with our Chris, Ali, Louisa and Damo... | |
| | | The Empire Podcast #62 It's not like we'd be running pictures of Ryan Gosling for the sake of it - spoiler: we would - but his appearance in Nicolas Winding Refn's Only God Forgives has given us all the excuse we need. The bruising melodrama spearheads the second in our special Cannes 2013 podcasts in which Team Empire prove that not only are they still sane and functioning, they're also able to tell their Jodorowsky from their Jia Zhangke (even if they can't necessarily spell them). Here's where to get your fix of Alec Baldwin, Nicolas Winding Refn and a whole bunch of Cannes gossip and reviews. |
| | | Star Trek Into Darkness Spoiler Podcast #2 Our first Star Trek Into Darkness spoiler special saw four of the podcast team dissecting the heck of out J.J. Abrams' space sequel for nearly an hour. This go around, it's interview time, and in the hot seat(s) are the writing/producing team of Damon Lindelof, Bryan Burk, Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, who reveal some very interesting details about You Know Who including whether we'll see him in another installment and when his name first came up in the writers' room... |
| | | The 20 Soundtracks That Defined The 2000s Empire's ginormour celebration of movie music cranks up a notch or two with the Sountracks That Defined The 2000s. It was the era that reverberated to the sounds of a dark knight, a mischievous Parisian, a troubled family and one flying house... |
| | | Clint Mansell On Making Requiem For A Dream One-time Pop Will Eat Itself frontman Clint Mansell has seen his Hollywood career explode since his first partnership with Darren Aronofsky. The two have forged a strong bond that runs right up to the director's latest, Noah, but it's the score for Requiem For A Dream that still resonates longest and loudest. Mansell talked to Empire about the inspirations for the score, the mighty Kronos Quartet and his favourite Lux Aeterna meme. |
| | | My Life In Soundtracks: Joe Cornish So far J. J. Abrams, Robert Rodriguez, Edgar Wright, Lee Unkrich and a host of other movie-making luminaries have shared the movie music that they've loved since childhood. Now, Empire's huge soundtracks celebration enters its final phase, Joe Cornish adds the cues that rock his world. |
| | | Edgar Wright's Essential Movie Music Playlist As a special, for-your-ears-only musical sign off to Empire's epic celebration of movie music, one of our favourite directors and ace pop-picker Edgar Wright has joined the party. We asked him to put together a celebrity playlist of his favourite tracks from the movies. He went away, rifled through his record and film collections, pondered, mused, and, we'd like to think, stroked his chin to a fine point, before returning with this, his ultimate movie playlist. He hopes you enjoy it. We hope so too. |
| | | Empire's Great Gatsby Video Interviews For the 66th Cannes Film Festival, an elite squad of Empire writers headed to the south of France to interview the world's biggest movie names. As it was the opening film of the Festival, The Great Gatsby was most definitely a part of that quest - and here are the results, including insightful conversations about gay monks, 'yellow doozies' and, um, Paul Rudd. |
| | | The Biggest Doctor Who Jaw-Droppers This past weekend's Doctor Who episode, The Name Of The Doctor, featured a heck of a last minute reveal (which, for the spoiler phobic, we won't discuss until the very last page of this feature, page 11). It's hardly the first surprise that the Time Lord - or, if you will, Shock Doc - has delivered across his 50 years rattling around space-time. We take a look at some of our favourites... |
| | | Quicksilver & Scarlet Witch: A Beginner's Guide To The Avengers 2 Newcomers Joss Whedon confirmed this weekend that the brother and sister that he had previously teased for Avengers 2 are, as practically everyone already guessed, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch. But for those who haven't been reading the comics for the past 40-odd years, who are these two, what can we expect from them and who should be cast? We answer all these questions and more below... |
| | | Arrested Development Video Interviews Arrested Development is back! On Netflix! On May 26! Those are the important details to write down in your copybooks, but just before you do, have a look at the following two AD-related interviews, the first with Cross, Hale and Tambor; the second with Cera and Shawkat - click here to watch that one. And yes, they are all drinking juiceboxes. Of course. |
| | | Empire's Favourite Music Moments Everyone has one: those big moments when the music kicks in and a classic movie shunts into a whole new gear. The Ronettes in Mean Streets. Tears For Fears in Donnie Darko. Everybody's Talking in Midnight Cowboy. There are thousands of greats to pick from, but for Movie Music month, Team Empire were asked to pick just one. Failure to comply meant listening to the Ghostbusters Rap on repeat for eternity. Here are our picks. |
| | | Morgan Spurlock On Comic-Con: The Movie He subsisted on fast food for a month for Super-Size Me, sold out for his examination of product placement in Pom Wonderful Presents The Greatest Movie Ever Sold, and now Morgan Spurlock has turned his attentions to the geek mecca that is Comic-Con. The result is an affectionate look at a weird phenomenon, with contributions from regular visitors like Joss Whedon and Stan Lee. We got him to tell us all about it... |
| | | The Hangover Part III Cast & Crew Interviews The trick to interviewing the filmmakers behind The Hangover trilogy is to make sure that you get in and out before they really get going of an evening. Oh, and obviously never accept a drink that you're aren't completely sure about. But with these simple safeguards in place, it is possible to quiz them all on the film without ending up in Tijuana with a chicken on your head. We spoke to director Todd Phillips and stars Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis and Ed Helms to get the lowdown on the whole series... | | | |

| | | | | A box full of Green & Blacks chocolate (in many new flavours). The chocolate lasted about 30 seconds, but we're keeping the box. | | | |

| | | | | The Hangover Part III Tonally a complete departure from the rest of the series, which is at once laudably brave and disappointingly unfunny. | | | | Also Out | | | This week's video trailers and clips. Every week, our video player will update to show trailers and clips from the week's movie releases listed above. | | |
|
| | | | | Django Unchained Another strong, sparky and bloody entry in the QT canon. Although, creaking under its running time, it's not quite as uproariously entertaining as his last pseudo-historical adventure, Inglourious Basterds. | | | | Also Out | | |
