| This Week... This week has largely seen us spit-shining our shoes and washing our hair in preparation for the most glittering, the most glamorous, and frequently the most boisterous night in the film calendar, the Jameson Empire Awards. This spectacular spectacular promises to be bigger and better than ever, with a veritable galaxy of stars swanning in to town to attend and celebrity wranglers working day and night to ensure that the carpet is the perfect shade of red and the gift suite appropriately luxurious. Naturally, Empire's own workers will be relegated to the trade entrance and not allowed within 50 feet of any free stuff, but we will be covering every other inch of the evening to bring you all the quips, quotes and celebrity drinking contests of the night. Who will "do an Isaacs" and tell amusing anecdotes to adoring Empire staffers until the early hours? Who will "pull a McAvoy" in their acceptance speech and make a joke so geeky that only (some) Empire staffers get it? Only Sunday night, and our extensive coverage on Monday morning, will tell… Helen O'Hara Deputy Online Editor, Empire | | |

| | | | | Nintendo's 3DS: First Look After the monumental success of the Wii and the original DS, you might consider forgiving the house that Mario built for resting on its laurels as it sat back and bathed in its own sweet success. Not so, because the Japanese gaming superpower has been busy tinkering away on yet another gaming revolution in its headquarters in Kyoto – the Nintendo 3DS. At first glance the naysayer may not be entirely unlikely to brush this one off as just another cheeky tweak on the tried and tested DS formula. Pop the lid, test drive it and you'll be in for a surprise. | | | |

Here, we remember the last of her kind… |

| | | 18 Reasons Why We Still Love You, Woody Allen Recently Woody Allen's work has been, shall we say... not his best. Not bad, hardly sparkling; at times it feels as if he's making movies for making movies' sake. The spark of genius may have faded but there are a world of Allen moments touched by geniune genius that remind us of his talents. As proof, we've compiled 18 reasons why Woody is one of the finest comedic directors of all time. Putting the past 15 years to one side for a moment, allow us to begin with an example from his oft-forgotten debut, What's Up Tiger Lily? and end with another from 1994's Bullets Over Broadway. Prepare to laugh, cry, and laugh and cry at the same time. In a good way, of course. |
| | | Exclusive: Ken Loach On Route Irish In Ken Loach's new thriller Route Irish, Mark Womack plays a security contractor who returns from Iraq to discover that the violence of his recent past isn't quite done with him. His old pal Frankie (John Bishop) has been killed on Route Irish, the main artery linking Baghad airport with the Green Zone. It's the most dangerous road in the world, but something doesn't add up. The film confounds some expectations too. There's explosions, guns battles and car chases - nope, this is not your typical Ken Loach film. We chatted to the director - still one of Britain's most passionate and original filmmaking voices - and his star about making the movie, its verite waterboarding scene and, of course, Bath City. |
