| This Week... It's time to play the music, it's time to light the lights, it's time to drink lots of coffee for the Oscars Sunday night! It's time to put on make-up (or not, depending on preference), it's time to dress up right (jeans for us; couture for the nominees), it's time to live-blog the hell out of the Oscars Sunday night. Yes, we'll be in the office, fortified by industrial quantities of caffeine and chocolate, for the Oscars this Sunday evening. From about 11.30pm we'll be live-blogging and tweeting the red carpet and ceremony, with all the photos and quotes that are fit to print from the night. If you simply can't wait that long, check out the wealth of Oscar features on the site: we've profiled all the nominees in the big categories, looked at every Best Picture winner ever, peeked at Oscars as they appear in the movies and put our money where our mouths are and predicted this year's winners. Join us for the finale to Hollywood's award season live or at a more reasonable hour on Monday, because hey! If George Clooney and Brad Pitt are there, chances are it's the place to be. | | | | | Fund This Film Now: Cuchulain News emerged this weekend that so-hot-right-now star Michael Fassbender wants to make a movie about Cuchulain. This is literally the most exciting movie news I've heard in years - even if it is in the pre-embryonic stages and should (if they're doing it right) face a rocky road to the screen. For those of you who weren't born in or near Erin's green valleys, let me explain what the heck it is, why it's awesome and how the heck you pronounce it. | | | |

| | | Vote: Jameson Empire Done In 60 Seconds There's still time to vote for your favourite in the Done In Sixty Seconds competition ahead of next month's Jameson Empire Awards. But time is running out! Voting closes on February 29, and after that we'll have our five UK finalists all lined up for the ceremony on March 23 and the rest will be left crying into their stopwatches and vowing revenge come next year. After that, the big winner will be joining Hollywood's finest at the Jameson Empire Awards on March 25, so it's all still to play for... |
| | | The Secrets Of Oscar Night Oscar night is all glitz, gowns and gongs, right? Well, kinda. But there's a darker side to it all. The traffic jams stretching to the horizon, nerves so taut you could play the Deerhunter theme on them, the endless "thank-you's" to lawyers/accountants/agents/mother-in-laws, the numberless incredible parties, the glory, the golden statuettes. Okay, maybe it's not so bad. But what's it really like at the Kodak Theater? Like Dorothy in Oz, Empire peeked behind the velvet curtain to find out what it feels like to experience Hollywood's night of nights first hand. Here's what seven Oscar veterans had to tell us... |
| | | Woody Harrelson Talks Rampart With a nickname like 'Date Rape', LAPD cop Dave Brown was never likely to hail from the Reg Hollis school of police work. Woody Harrelson's portrayal of the true-life member of the department's Rampart Division is all blood and thunder, bungs and backhanders; the least compromising and (for anyone planning to visit the city) reassuring depiction of the department since Training Day. The movie reunites Harrelson with his Messenger director Oren Moverman. The pair, and the film's gilded supporting cast, talked to Empire about dirty cops and moral conundrums. |
| | | Denzel Washington Talks Safe House The latest in Denzel Washington's long line of awesomely-named characters, Safe House's Tobin Frost is a rogue black-ops agent who emerges from hiding brandishing a computer chip that could bring down the entire Western intelligence system. If this chip falls into the wrong hands... well, you know the rest. Luckily, the Green Lantern himself, Ryan Reynolds, is on hand to tackle the threat as the rookie CIA man at his South African safe house. We took our waterboard along with us to meet Reynolds and Washington, as well as director Daniel Espinosa, and ask some probing questions about their thunderous thriller. |
| | | The Oscars Ceremony In The Movies We all love Oscars night, right? It's a celebration of movies and candy for the eyes - those movie stars scrub up pretty nicely - and there's always half a chance someone will do something so entirely bonkers that you'll have to queue to get near a water cooler come Monday morning. (Roberto Benigni, we're looking at you.) In a few cases of art imitating life, the ceremony has also featured on the big screen too, giving us a peek behind the velvet curtain. Here are Oscar's on-screen cameos. |
| | | Empire's 2012 BAFTA Videblogisode As you look ahead to the Oscars this weekend, spare a moment to look back at the BAFTA, where our Chris Hewitt heroically camped out on a glacial red carpet in the hopes of hunting down the very biggest celebrity game. And what a haul he landed! George Clooney! Chris "Thor" Hemsworth! Viola "Streep Beater?" Davis! And Tom "What a nice man, he brought Chris a flask of soup" Hiddleston! For all this and more, cast your eyes this way... |
| | | The Sexiest Characters In Cinema Forget George Clooney, pay no attention to Scarlett Johansson. This is about film characters, not film stars, and we asked you to decide on the most attractive fictional creatures of all time. We probably shouldn't have been surprised at the number of catsuit-wearers who turned up in the results (they just outnumber the bikini or tuxedo lovers) but you may be surprised by a few names here, both for how high (or low) certain heartthrobs place and who makes the cut. Read on to learn more, and even learn a few ace chat-up lines that are GUARANTEED to work if you ever meet these fictional characters... | | | |
