This Week...
You may have noticed something rather mysterious on the Empire homepage since yesterday, but fear not! We're not going to pull a Nolan and leave you gagging for information forever; instead, all will be - gradually - revealed over the next few days. And we think you're going to like it. While you're trying to distract yourself from the intense curiosity that we've just provoked, why not while away the time with our 50 Best Animated Movie Characters, which provoked furious Woody Vs. Buzz debate in the office (we had to give Chris a lollypop to cheer him up afterwards). We also got to try out a DeLorean time machine, watch some more fabulous London Film Festival blogisodes and, er, watch James Franco saw his own arm off. Well, you have to mix it up, don't you?

Tron Legacy Music Video Arrives
With the film's release less than two months away now, the Tron Legacy promotional attack is reaching a peak, with Disney rolling out all sorts of new goodies. And it helps that among the Mouse House's arsenal is music from Daft Punk, who have written the film's score, a track from which is featured in this nifty new music video.

    How To Arrive On DVD
This isn't a big argument blog, so if you're one of those people who objects when we write something whimsical and basically pointless that happened to interest us, look away now. I just want to give (the rest of) you an insight into some of the press releases* we get sent into the Empire office for a moment, because it may amuse you. And specifically I want to talk about how films arrive on DVD.

The 50 Best Animated Movie Characters
The second golden age of animation is well under way, with Aardman, Miyazaki, Disney Pixar and DreamWorks rolling out rather good stories on a fairly regular basis. But which characters of the stop-motion, CG or hand-drawn world really make the grade? Which existing characters made the leap from short form to full-length feature with their dignity intact? How do the newcomers really compare to old hands of earlier eras? Read on to find out…

    Video: London Film Festival Videblogisodes
The BFI London Film Festival has now finished in a blaze of gory - we mean, glory - with Danny Boyle's excellent 127 Hours. But fear not, you haven't missed it all. There's still time to catch up with Sam and Chris' videblogisodes and experience all the excitement and glamour of the Festival from the comfort of your own home / office / place of education / local coffee shop with wi-fi. Click here to watch the lot, and marvel once again at Chris' impersonations.

Video: Mark Ruffalo And Lisa Cholodenko Talk The Kids Are All Right
The Kids Are All Right is a family-drama-comedy-crossover that's had the critics cheering its insightful observations, wry wit, and refreshing tone. The plot revolves around a lesbian couple whose children meet their sperm donor father (Ruffalo), and the complications that brings about. So with director Lisa Cholodenko and star Mark Ruffalo visited town recently, we asked about The Hulk, Withnail & I and the concept of 'hair brothers.' Intrigued? We're not surprised…

Video: Exclusive Burke & Hare Videblogisode!
John Landis' Burke & Hare opens today (well, Wednesday, but who's counting?), marking the long-awaited return of a true legend. It's been twelve years since Landis last directed a feature film (not in the documentary form), so our excitement over that - coupled with the involvement of Simon Pegg and Andy Serkis - compelled us to send Chris Hewitt and Sam Toy down to the film's set in March for a very special videblogisode. But who is this handsomely dressed man? And what has he done with Chris?

Remake Or Original: A Horror Poster Face-Off
It's a truism that horror remakes are rarely as good as their predecessors. However, in one area they occasionally surpass the original, and that's in their poster art. Since they're able to capitalise on the most eye-catching and iconic imagery of the films that everyone already knows, some of these remake promos are better than anything that the (superior) original film produced. But let's put it to the test: we've gathered some of the best posters for both originals and remakes, so that you can vote for your favourite...

Sigourney Weaver On The Alien Saga & Ellen Ripley
The release of the Alien Anthology this week has us more excited than a chestburster with a new ribcage to explode, and we're celebrating by bringing you not one but two interviews with the legend that is Sigourney Weaver. We did an in-depth interview with her last year about the whole saga, and we've got that as Part One, and then caught up with her again recently to make sure that we're bang up to date, and that's Part Two. Read both sections for everything you ever wanted to know about Warrant Officer Ellen Ripley. Spoiler: she's awesome.

    The Ultimate Spider Picture Quiz
Thank the devil for Halloween, because you can never have too many excuses to dress up and cadge free sweets off of total strangers (do that on any other day, and they call it mugging; where's the justice?). It's also to be lauded though, as one of the most celebrated dates in movies, from the lighthearted romps of Michael Myers, to the harrowing 96 minutes that is Hocus Pocus. As you've probably guessed by now, we've assembled a quiz for the occasion. Now we could have gone with monsters, or killers or whatever, but that might be a bit easy for you lot – so this year, you get spiders. You know the drill by now: figure out the movie title from each image given, and punch it into the box immediately underneath. Green ticks are good, red crosses mean you're not done yet. Good luck, and go easy on the Haribo.

    The Transcript: John Landis Webchat
John Landis came to our offices recently for a webchat, and needless to say we were very excited. So excited, in fact, that Ali managed to execute typos so often in his live transcription of Landis's musings that the Animal House and Blues Brothers director shouted at him. A lot. Now we've collated all the wisdom he imparted (and removed all the typos), we're happy to announce the whole interview here below. So for details on working with Sam Raimi, Sergio Leone, Rick Baker, Ronnie Corbett and John Belushi, look no further...

Jameson Empire Awards Done In 60 Seconds Competition
Ladies and gentlemen, it's back - and this time it's personal. It's time once again for the Empire and Jameson Done In Sixty Seconds competition, where we ask you to recreate classic movies in no more than a minute. You must take a piece of cinematic genius (or not-so-genius if you prefer), boil it down to its essence and cram it all into a timeframe shorter than the life expectancy of the comedy sidekick in a slasher movie. To take part in this year's competition and be in with a chance of winning an Empire Award and attending the star-studded and glittering Jameson Empire Awards in March 2011, grab some mates and blag a camera from somewhere and get shooting. To sixty seconds, and not beyond!

    Iron Man 2

Rourke and Rockwell make satisfying, complementary villains, while Downey Jr. delivers again. Shame this sequel feels inessential, over-busy and a little, well, mechanical. Nothing they can't put right for Iron Man 3.
