| This Week... Wednesday was a momentous day in the Empire office. James was bent under the weight of getting the iPad edition out the door; Chris, Nick and I were staggering back into the office with a bad case of Comic-Con lag, and Ali, Amar and Phil were weeping tears of joy at the prospect of anyone being on hand to help with work. But all our troubles were solved in one fell swoop when four Mexican owls, a mariachi band and a truckload of burritos arrived to brighten our entire day. It was all in the good name of Rango and we loved it. A quick rendition of Morena De Mi Corazon later (that's the song from Desperado, fact fans) and we were all better and back on the job. There's a moral here, ladies and gentlemen: owls in sombreros cure everything. Helen O'Hara Deputy Editor, Empire | | |

| | | | | The Do's And Don'ts For Picking A Takeout Night Movie Takeaway is probably one of the best ideas man has ever had: all you need to have a good time is food, films and an oversized hoody. But there is always the same squabble when trying to decide on the ultimate film to fit the mood, so from past experience I'm going to share the do's and don'ts on what to watch. | | | |

| | | | | Miyazaki On Miyazaki: The Animation Genius On His Movies Hayao Miyazaki is arguably the greatest living animation director, the Japanese Walt Disney — though he'd not thank you for the title. With Studio Ghibli's eleventh feature, Arrietty, about to hit our screens, Empire is proud to relive the studio's filmography with the man who continues to preside over it so gloriously. Prepare for 30 years of unparalleled magic... | | |
| | | Chris Evans Talks Captain America When Empire descended on the Shepperton set of Captain America, Cap himself was gearing up for the movie's massive denouement. In the red corner was Hugo Weaving's Red Skull, a man so evil he can't even hold down a spot in the Nazi Party; in the other, Chris Evans, last seen battling Scott Pilgrim as one of seven evil exes, was limbering up for an even greater deathmatch. Eschewing CG in favour of '40s textures, Marvel have built the most of the showdown's location – a giant V-wing bomber – from the ground up. "The wheel alone is 24 foot high," grins Rogers, still wrapping his head around the sheer scale of the thing. Even for a Fantastic Four veteran, the superhero suit took some getting used to, as Evans explained when we dragged him away from world-saving duties. |
| | | The Men Behind The Make-Up: The Dwarves Of The Hobbit Peter Jackson's The Hobbit duology continues to rumble forward in production, and the last few weeks have seen a steady stream of beauty shots (if that's the word) of Thorin's Company, the intrepid dwarves who embark on a quest to steal a mountain from a dragon and recover their lost heritage. Martin Freeman's Bilbo and Ian McKellen's Gandalf accompany them to assist where they can (which is, well, all over) but it's these intrepid thirteen who form the nucleus of the group. Read on to figure out who's who and what's what... |
| | | Cars 2 Set Visit: Empire Meets John Lasseter Disney honcho and Pixar founder, John Lasseter's return to directorial duties for the globe-trotting Cars 2 has been a labour of love – and not without its problems. Empire's Olly Richards travelled to Pixar's HQ in Emeryville, CA, the Greatest Workplace in the World™, to speak to Lasseter and the team who put Mater and Lightning McQueen back on the road. |
| | | Chris Weitz Talks A Better Life With The Golden Compass and Twilight: New Moon behind him, you might expect Chris Weitz to be making epic, CGI-heavy blockbusters chocked to the gills with talking polar bears and angsty teens. Instead the anglophile director has made the much more personal, intimate A Better Life. But then, as Weitz explained, he "likes his burgers with some nice fresh lettuce". We panicked that we'd come to the interview unprepared but thankfully it turned out to be a metaphor, although his powerful, affecting new film is anything but 'lettuce'. We chatted to him about the personal inspiration - and influences - behind the story. |

| | | | | The First Avenger: Captain America Charming, handsome and full of pep – all 70 year-old Cap lacks is a knockout blow. Still, Johnston should be saluted for old-fashioned heart in a cynical age, while Marvel should be confined to barracks for cynical marketing. | | | | Also Out | | | Watch Video This Week's Video Trailers And Clips Every week, our video player will update to show trailers and clips from the week's movie releases listed above. | | |
