And as if that weren't enough, we also have interviews with the director of ace new prison drama Cell 211 and Rutger Hauer, star of the awesomely-titled Hobo With A Shotgun. | | | | | What's Your Favourite Harry Potter Plot Hole? 'I started watching the movies through. They were fun, they were enjoyable, they were good family cinema. And now I've watched the final film, those feelings I had back in the day have returned – how does any of this shit make any sense? Even with the plot hole cure-all balm of "magic and shit"? Does anyone else find certain things totally nonsensical?' | | | |

| | | | | The 25 Greatest Harry Potter Characters Amid all the broomstick antics and wand waving and dragon slaying, the heart and soul of the success of the Harry Potter series has been the characters. From Harry himself to magical creatures like Dobby or grown-ups like Professor McGonagall, the series is packed with memorable characters, brought to life on the big screen by some of Blighty's finest. A few weeks ago we asked you to vote for your favourites. We collated and counted the results, and here are the best-loved characters in the wizarding world... | | |
| | | Harry Potter: The Questionnaire After eight movies-worth of magic spells, fiendish plots, diabolic nastiness and big ol' butterbeer binges, Harry Potter is finally drawing to a close. It's a moment to bring a touch of sadness to even the stoniest heart. The film's three stars, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe, mere whippersnappers when they began on The Philosopher's Stone, are all growed up now and ready to move on to new challenges. Before they did just that, Empire was lucky enough to sit down with the three of them and ask them some questions tricky enough for Peter Pettigrew himself. |
| | | Christopher Columbus Remembers Harry Potter The man behind Mrs Doubtfire, Home Alone and Stepmom seems like a solid pick to coax three inexperienced child actors through the blossoming world of Hogwarts. Sure enough, Christoper Columbus proved exactly that. The director bequeathed the franchise a solid start with The Philosopher's Stone and The Chamber Of Secrets, two films shot back to back over the course of 300 or so gruelling days. But, as he reflected to Empire, getting the gig in the first place was one his greatest challenges. |
| | | Alfonso Cuarón Remembers Harry Potter If the Harry Potter franchise kicked off in Christopher Columbus' safe hands, the next director was a step into the leftfield. Alfonso Cuarón, the Mexican director of Y Tu Mamá También, brought a darker sensibility to play at Hogwarts. When Empire caught up with him recently, we hit him with one of our 'Reflectus Maximum Nostalgius' spells. Sure enough, he happily cast his mind back to the origins of his involvement with the beloved series. It all started with a particularly shirty phone call from one Guillermo del Toro... |
| | | Mike Newell Remembers Harry Potter After Christopher Columbus and Alfonso Cuarón had kicked off the Potter franchise, it was the turn of the first of two British directors to take the mantle. Mike Newell's CV had a diverse look to it prior to his trip to Hogwarts - Four Weddings And A Funeral sharing A4 space with Donnie Brasco - but, as he explains to Empire, nothing prepared him for joining a well-established movie franchise mid-stream. "It was an extremely odd experience," he says of The Goblet Of Fire. "I'm not sure whether it suited any of us..." |
| | | Deathly Hallows Director David Yates On Harry Potter Talk to the first three Harry Potter directors, Christopher Columbus, Alfonso Cuarón and Mike Newell, and they'll tell you that finishing one of the franchise's movies was a little like running up Everest in a portakabin (our words, not their's). Columbus managed two, but "there was no way I could have done the third film", he remembers. Presumably fuelled by a billion Shredded Wheat and batteries made of tiny Allsparks, David Yates managed four. Yup, four. And to add to the challenge, Order Of The Phoenix was Yates's film debut. "It was an interesting test," he understated when Empire chatted to him, "but I wouldn't have missed it for the world". |
| | | Harry Potter And The Wizarding World Wide Web There are movie fans, then there are Harry Potter movie fans – seriously, Sorting Hats off to you guys; you know how to really love a franchise. Over the past ten years we've seen such extreme dedication from Potter fanatics that it was a real challenge to pick the weirdest of the lot. Still, we met that challenge head on and have made you this list of the strangest online Potter moments / things ever, from puppets to tattoos, proposals to pillows. It's all here, and it's all slightly worrying. Still, if there's a piece of Potter madness we feel deserves to join this hallowed ranks, then let us know in the comment box below, and we'll see what we can do. |
| | | 10 Years Of Harry Potter Trailers It's now mere hours until the release of Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 2 but, just in case you need a help to get you through this final bit of waiting, we thought we'd take a look back at the final trailers for each of the eight films to date. What approach did each one take? What's been consistent and what has changed? Which one looks most bombastic and impressive? And how young do they look in the first one! Read on for a trip down memory lane, and Privet Drive... |
| | | 10 Years Of Harry Potter Premieres The very first Harry Potter premiere took place in November 2001, almost a decade ago. With the release of Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 2 this week, we thought we'd look back at the London Potter premieres through the years, and take a quick gander at how the principal cast has changed. Marvel as hair and fashion sense morphs before your eyes! Wonder what they were thinking as you check out some of their ensembles! And bid a fond farewell to the series that has ruled the decade... |
| | | How To Adapt Harry Potter: Steve Kloves Talks Harry Potter Along with producer David Heyman, writer Steve Kloves is the longest serving member of the Potter crew. His job was arguably the toughest of the lot: shapeshifting JK Rowling's vision from page to screen without losing the unique magic of the Potter world. Since those early scripts, he's gone on to write every Potter movie except The Order Of The Phoenix. The man deserves a rest, you might think. But no! We phoned him up and made him answer lots of questions instead. The result was a fascinating insight into the most successful movie franchise in history. |
| | | Video: Rutger Hauer On Hobo With A Shotgun Even when he's not been waxing melancholic about flaming attack ships or putting the kibosh on anyone ever picking up a hitchhiker again, Rutger Hauer has given us plenty of memorable moments over the course of his long career. And it's not over by a long shot. He's one of the busiest actors in - or more accurately - just outside of Hollywood. Next, he's playing scary painter Hans Bruegel as well as a no-doubt scarier than normal Van Helsing in Dario Argento's new Dracula film. First up, though, is the small matter of Hobo With A Shotgun, a lovingly demented exploitation flick in the Troma tradition. Hauer explained what it was about the bear-loving vigilante that appealed the most. |
| | | Video: Daniel Monzón Talks Cell 211 Somewhere between Con Air and A Prophet lives Spanish thriller Cell 211. It cleaned up at Spain's Goya awards and has packed out Spanish cinemas since release. With its release on these shores, Empire tracked down Mallorca-born director Daniel Monzón to talk about his influences and the inspirations behind the film. |
| | | Video: Kim Cattrall On Meet Monica Velour With a certain HBO show behind her, it's easy to forget that Kim Cattrall has worked with filmmakers of the calibre of Roman Polanski, Brian De Palma and John Carpenter. The Liverpool-born actress is keen to leave Samantha behind her and Meet Monica Velour, a tender coming-of-age indie, shows that her acting chops extend well beyond the much-loved glitz-and-Gucci world of the Big Apple. And it'd be tough to get much further from it than the trailer park in Illinois where Monica Velour, a '70s porn star come on hard times, is forced to ponder past glories by a hero-worshipping outsider. Empire jumped at the chance to chat to her about the movie (and ask her porn name). | | | |

| | | | | Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 2 A worthy farewell that packs in as much action as its seven predecessors combined and manages not to stint on the emotional beats. Harry Potter leaves us as a quiet, bespectacled, corduroy-wearing hero for the ages. | | | | Also Out | | | Watch Video This Week's Video Trailers And Clips Every week, our video player will update to show trailers and clips from the week's movie releases listed above. | | |
