Celebrate our anniversary with our special offer!

This week has brought with it many strange sights. We have seen a member of the Empire team voluntarily wear a snazzy suit, the better to interview a well-dressed star. We got a look at the new Batmobile in all its glory, from its spiffy indicators to its handy machine guns. We learned about a new greeting craze, the Dick Graze , courtesy of the endlessly amusing Channing Tatum. We saw Ali wearing a box (scroll down for that). And amid all the madness, vigilante vehicles and unexpectedly respectable clothing, we still managed to bring you more of our Future of Film series, examining the trends shaping modern cinema and how they'll change going forward. But now that it's Friday and things have gone back to normal, we're just going to have a nice sit-down and eat this cake shaped like a volcano.

The Future Of Film: 21 Stars Of The Future
Keanu Reeves turned 50 this week, proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that the actors we grew up with are getting on a bit and we're going to need, like Gremlins, a new batch. Who will lead the future of film? Well, here are the young up-and-comers that we think have their biggest hits and best work ahead of them. Some are absolute beginners; others have a string of hits behind them already, but all are on an upward curve...

"Which shop from the whole history of cinema would you most like to visit in real life?" is just one of the questions the Empire Podcast team tackle, with guests Sir Roger Moore and George MacKay dealing with the likes of "When was the last time you wore knitwear?" and "How exactly is your name pronounced?" and handling both with aplomb.

No One Stays Dead In Comics: 16 Superhero Deaths And How Long They Lasted
The saying used to go that, "Nobody stays dead in comics apart from Bucky Barnes, Uncle Ben and Jason Todd." But Bucky and Jason didn't stay dead at all, and even Uncle Ben wasn't exactly never seen again. The death of a major character makes for great "event" drama in the monthly pages of a comic book, but so rarely remains permanent that frequent resurrections have become a cliché. But did we ever expect, and do we really want, realism? "I want to take this opportunity to formally apologise to all the readers," said Fabian Nicieza, addressing upset over the apparent deaths of two Legion of Super Heroes members, "for having killed off a shapeshifter and a teleporter in a superhero comic book..."

Becoming Frankenstein: Monsters In The Make-Up Chair
Even in an age of CG effects and ever-evolving performance capture, there's something special about great practical make-up effects. Just as they did 90 years ago at the dawn of cinema, a well-realised combination of make-up and actor can create an indelible movie monster that lingers in the mind long after the credits roll. Here, we have gathered backstage images of some of those monsters as they were created, showing the artists who made them at work...

How Much Is A Pint Of Milk: Rutger Hauer
He watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate and knows all about white-topped black stuff when it comes in pints, but is the Hauster as familiar with the bovine breakfast beverage?

The 15 Most Charming And Bonkers Channing Tatum Videos On The Internet
Channing Tatum: actor, body-popper, former (and future, in Magic Mike XXL) exotic dancer, rapper... internet hero. As 22 Jump Street hits home entertainment, Jonah Hill's better half has unveiled a new piece of excellent internet ephemera with 'Dick Graze' (see below), and after watching it for the fifth and not-final time the Empire Office realised that an official collection of Mr. Tatum's greatest YouTube hits was in order. Soon, he'll be up there with Bill Murray and Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart...

The Boxtrolls Interviews: The Cast And Crew On Laika's Latest
The Boxtrolls is the latest film from Laika, who previously brought us Coraline and ParaNorman. Recently in Los Angeles, we spoke to Game Of Thrones' Isaac Hempstead Wright, who voices the boy, Eggs, raised by the titular creatures; Elle Fanning, who's the moderately awful Winnie; and Sir Ben Kingsley, who voices the thoroughly awful Archibald Snatcher - as well as directors Graham Annable and Anthony Stacchi.

    How We Made The Boxtrolls
Laika, the animation studio behind Coraline and ParaNorman, is back with The Boxtrolls. Adapted from Alan Snow's book Here Be Monsters, it's a mad, funny, charming adventure about beasties who live beneath the streets of the strange town of Cheesebridge. Misunderstood and maligned, they eventually have the chance to prove they're more than just sewer-dwelling rubbish collectors. Here, directors Anthony Stacchi and Graham Annable discuss their toughest scene, the quest to find the perfect voices and how to make puppets waltz in stop-motion...

Pride: Matthew Warchus & Stephen Beresford Interview
On paper, Pride sounds like it might be preachy, dull or fantastical: the story of a gay and lesbian group raising funds for miners during the 1984 strike seems far-fetched at best and artificial at worst. But for writer Stephen Beresford and director Matthew Warchus, the true story was one that deserved a wider audience, and the more political elements best disguised with healthy helpings of laughter. We spoke to the pair about how the film came to be...
