As part of a new series, we're examining how cinema is going to change in the years and decades ahead in all sorts of different ways. Will we really be using virtual reality headsets? Will we even go to the cinema? And aside from technology, how are the movies changing? Over the next few weeks we'll be covering everything from the rise of Skype moviemaking to the way in which modern filmmaking is a bit like Renaissance Florence. Read it and be amazed as we out-predict Paul The Octopus and put Mystic Meg to shame. Probably.

    The Future Of Film
"I'm from the future, go to China!", Jeff Daniels urges Joseph Gordon-Levitt's character in Looper. Hollywood was definitely paying heed to Future Daniels, as anyone who's seen Pacific Rim, Transformers 4, the Chinese cut of Iron Man 3 or any of the other recent blockbusters catering for the world's biggest new movie market will testify. But the future for moviegoers is not just about China. Starting with 48FPS and a look at film financing models that go back to the future, Empire's Future of Film month will tackle all the key innovations, inventions and, to a lesser extent, innoventions you need to know about. Over the next four weeks, we'll be talking to directors, producers and actors, as well as pioneers in VFX, motion-capture, 4K technology, piracy policing and filmmaking equipment to find out what the future holds. And, yes, we will be going to China.

As Above, So Below: The Stars And Directors Interviews
Creepy thriller As Above, So Below hits cinemas this week and Empire was invited deep underground to the skeleton-filled Parisian catacombs to quiz the creators of the film, Drew and John Erick Dowdle, and the film's stars, Perdita Weeks and Ben Feldman, on their claustrophobic creation. Drew and John chat brotherly love, phobias and working with James Bond while Mad Men star Ben Feldman explains what Michael Ginsberg would've done and The Invisible Woman actress Perdita Weeks recalls the joys of Spice Girl fandom.
