 | This Week... Spring has arrived - and with it, a plethora of new film trailers this week. Chief among them were lengthy snippets of Star Trek Into Darkness and Man Of Steel, but we also got our first - really promising - look at R.I.P.D. and a teaser for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (that got a trailer breakdown right here). We also saw Iron Man 3 ahead of its release next week, and while the review is still embargoed we can tell you that it will contain the word (phrase?) "magma-bastards" and a whole lot of enthusiasm. But even more exciting than all of this is the debut of our super-duper Soundtracks celebration, the definitive guide to all things movie-music related. We've looked at the soundtracks that defined the last 5 decades, talked to composers and filmmakers and assembled playlists of the most essential music out there. It's taken literally months to compile, but it starts today - so lay back, fasten your earphones and enjoy! Helen O'Hara Deputy Online Editor, Empire | | |

 | | | | | Hannibal: The Pilot Review Quid pro quo, dear Clarice. What was your reaction - be honest now - when it was first announced that a Hannibal Lecter prequel TV show was in the works? A dismissive sigh? An audible groan? A dismissively audible sigh-groan? An angry forum rant about how the character should be left alone? All of the above? All of the above whilst guzzling a nice Chianti? | | | |

 | | | | | The Birth Of Movie Music From A-Z Movie music began way back in the era of kinetoscopes and nickelodeons, with a man tickling the ivories in a dusty corner of a theatre. Over the next century or so, it evolved, swelled and cranked up into the kind of Han Zimmer fanfares and Howard Shore symphonies that would probably blow that poor pianist clean off his stool. The road from Dmitri Shostakovich to Danny Elfman has been a long one, so to kick off Empire's giant soundtrack celebration, we've assembled a handy guide to the medium's first 60 years. | |
| | | The Empire Podcast #57 The star and director of Evil Dead, Jane Levy and Fede Alvarez, stop by the Empire Podcast studio to talk blood, body parts and chainsaws this week, with only two of us fainting during the process. Elsewhere, La Haine director and Amelie star Mathieu Kassovitz drops in in honour of his latest, Rebellion, and the podcast team talk embarrassing interview questions, yearly Star Wars outings and funerals in the movies (for some reason...) |
| | | Evil Dead: Fede Alvarez and Jane Levy Sam Raimi's Evil Dead trilogy is a cult favourite and there was trepidation when a new take on the story was announced. As it turns out, Fede Alvarez' film, with Jane Levy starring, has been generally well-received by fans and done brilliantly at the box-office. We sat down with the director and star recently to talk horror, torture and what to expect from the film... |
| | | Bruce Campbell Talks Evil Dead Bruce Campbell is a legend, particularly in horror circles, thanks to his three-film performance as the great Ash in Sam Raimi's Evil Dead trilogy. Now he's a producer on Fede Alvarez' new take on the mythology, and here he talks about how things have changed and explains his advice to the new cast faced with demonic possession... |
| | | Jack Black On Bernie Usually Jack Black turns up in wild comedies or voicing animated characters these days, but his latest film, Bernie, sees the star playing a gospel-singing mortician who strikes up an unlikely friendship with the town's meanest widow (Shirley MacLaine) - only for their relationship to come to a sticky and unlikely end. We spoke to the star about playing a real-life figure and trimming Shirley MacLaine's toenails... |
| | | The Hunger Games: Catching Fire: 8 Lessons From The Teaser Trailer The second Hunger Games film sees a newly-minted Oscar winner, Jennifer Lawrence, starring for a new director, Francis Lawrence (no relation) in what promises to be a bigger, badder story of political unrest and life-threatening televised competition. This week the first teaser trailer debuted online, and gave us a little more of an idea of what we're in for. Here's what to take from this teaser, in largely spoiler-free form (unless you skipped the first movie)... |
| | | Film-By-Film: Pierce Brosnan In His Own Words Suave, sophisticated and almost absurdly handsome, Pierce Brosnan has been making ladies' hearts quiver since his very first film role in The Long Good Friday back in 1980. In celebration of his latest movie, the genuinely delightful Danish romance Love Is All You Need (out this weekend), the man known by Adam And Joe aficionados as Bron-Hom guides us through some select moments of his career, with an extra bonus titbit at the end for any Breaking Bad fans out there... |

 | | | | | Evil Dead Prepare yourself for a shock: a horror remake that, at its best, manages to recapture the original's hardcore nastiness.
